Now here’s a recipe that won’t give you a lick of trouble. These honey mustard kielbasa bites are just the thing for folks dropping by or when you’re fixing up a little something for game day. I’ve made these more times than I can count and there’s never a bite left. It’s a good one to keep warm in the slow cooker all evening so you don’t have to fuss while everyone’s visiting.
I use beef. If you want to lighten it up, try chicken summer sausage. Works just fine and tastes nice with the sauce. You just stir everything together and let it bubble away in the pot. That’s all there is to it.
Ingredients
- 1 package (14 oz.) beef or chicken kielbasa sled into rounds
- ⅓ cup yellow mustard
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1 garlic clove minced
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
What You’ll Need
- Small slow cooker
- One mixing bowl
- Spoon for stirring
Directions
- Make the sauce
Stir the mustard honey garlic and pepper in a little bowl. - Get it in the pot
Put your sliced kielbasa in a small slow cooker (1.5-quart or bigger). Pour the sauce over it and give it a good stir. - Cook it
Cover and cook on High for about 1½ hours. Give it a stir now and then if you remember. - Keep warm and serve
Switch the cooker to Warm and let guests help themselves. Don’t forget the toothpicks. - Optional but nice
If you’ve got the time brown the sausage slices in a frying pan first. Makes them even better.
A Few Handy Notes
- Make ahead You can mix the sauce and slice the sausage the day before. Saves time.
- Serve warm Keep the slow cooker on the warm setting and let folks help themselves.
- Fancy it up If you want brown the kielbasa in a skillet first. Gives it a little more color and flavor.
- Goes well with Toothpicks of course. And maybe some rye crackers pickles or soft bread on the side.
About How Healthy
One helping (4 to 5 pieces) has somewhere around 200 calories give or take depending on the sausage. Not too heavy and mighty tasty.
These are just ballpark numbers not medical advice. Ask your doctor if you need to keep track of such things.
Leftovers and Questions
Can I make more?
Sure can. Just double or triple everything and use a bigger cooker.
Can I use turkey sausage?
Yes dear. Turkey works just fine.
